2015 Recipient

Mike Van Hoozer graduated from Briarcrest in 1984 with high honors. He was Student Council President, named Who’s Who Among American High School Students, A member of the National Honor Society, and a Top Twenty Scholar. He was selected for “Mr. Briarcrest” award his Senior year, and Voted “Best All Round” and “Most Dependable” in the Briarcrest Hall of Fame. Mr. Van Hoozer was the Boys State Representative for Tennessee Cross Country and Basketball teams, a Member of the first District, Regional, and Sub-State Champion and State Runner Up on the Basketball team. Today, Mr. Van Hoozer is a consultant, speaker, author, leadership expert, and peak performance coach to business leaders, entrepreneurs, and elite amateur and professional athletes. He is a graduate of Baylor University and is the Human Performance Practice Lead for Athenian Consulting Group. He is a former Senior Executive with Accenture with over 26 years of consulting experience.
 
In sports, he works as a peak performance coach to high school, college, and professional athletes, coaches, and teams including NBA, NFL, and MLB players. He works with his athletes to develop focus, mental toughness, confidence, and improved mental recovery time as well as guiding them through career development and life transitions. In 2005, he worked with a core group of the Houston Astros to help them recover from a 15-30 start with no hope of the playoffs to make an incredible playoff run that included winning an 18-inning game and a trip to the World Series.
