2014 Recipient

Drew Sippel graduated from Briarcrest in 1984. Drew graduated Mississippi, in just three years, finishing with a 3.98 GPA and winning the Taylor Medal of Honor, the highest University of Mississippi business school honor. After graduating from the University of Mississippi, Drew earned an Masters of Business Administration from the Babcock Graduate School of Management at Wake Forest University. In 2010, Drew earned a Masters of Arts and Education at Union University. After graduating from Wake Forest, Drew worked in the private sector for 13 years, spending the last 5 years of this stage of his career as the Division Controller of Mueller Industries, a $1 billion manufacturing company. While working at Mueller, Drew went on a mission trip on which he felt the Lord calling him to a different career path. After 2 years of praying and listening left the for-profit sector to become the Church Administrator at Christ United Methodist Church. As part of the church staff, Drew began to see the needs of low-income families throughout the Memphis community. Recognizing the direct connection between the lack of a quality education and the issues that plague the City of Memphis, Drew worked with Christ United Methodist Church staff and leaders to create Cornerstone Prep, an urban elementary school serving the Binghampton community. Drew currently serves as the Executive Director for Cornerstone Prep, which provides a high-quality education for 500 low-income children from Binghampton and surrounding communities in grades pre-kindergarten through 6th grade. Cornerstone Prep was recently acknowledged for being one of the highest performing urban schools in the country and was honored  with a visit by United States Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.  Drew and his wife, Briarcrest alumni Tracy Hill Sippel, celebrated their 25 wedding anniversary this month and they have three children, Carson, Avery and Graham. Drew and his family attend Christ Methodist Church, where Drew has taught Sunday School for the past 18 years and led a number of small Bible Study groups at church and the workplace. Drew and his family are active in local missions and ministries, having worked with Service Over Self, Eikon and the Binghampton Development Corporation. The Sippel family is also involved in international missions, having traveled to China, North Korea, Mexico and Guatemala to share the good news of Jesus Christ.
