  • Fall Sports

    Briarcrest elementary football teams (grades 1 - 4) 
    play in the Crosscheck league sponsored by Grace Evangelical Church.  The 1st and 2nd grade boys play flag football, while the 3rd & 4th grade boys play tackle football. The 5th grade boys play on a 5th/6th combo team with the Middle School.   The 5th grade boys will also have some 5th grade only games.  In addition to football, we have a Cross Country team for boys & girls in grades 3 - 5.  The Cross Country team practice twice a week with one meet per week.   
  • Winter Sports

    Boys and Girls grades 1 – 5 are invited to become a part of the Briarcrest basketball program.  Signups begin in late September to determine the number of teams in each grade.  There will be eight to ten players on each team.   Teams participate in the Crosscheck, ESCRA, or PAA leagues.  Players will be placed on a team based on his/her developmental level after evaluations from P.E. class and scheduled “Play Day.”
  • Spring Sports

    Boys and Girls from Kindergarten to Grade 5 are encouraged to be a part of our track program.  The track program is sponsored through the Shelby Youth Sports (SYS).  Meets are scheduled on Saturdays.  Generally, the runners have two practices per week. 
    Briarcrest offers baseball for boys in grades 1-4.  Signups will begin in late February with games beginning in early May and ending in mid-June.  1
    st and 2nd grades will play coach pitch, and 3rd and 4th grades will play kid pitch.  These teams participate in the Memphis Christian Recreation Association (MCRA) league.
    Tee Ball
    JrK and SrK boys and girls can participate in our t-ball program.  Briarcrest t-ball is an in house league where we play other Briarcrest teams.  We usually have 4 or 5 teams with about 6 games each season.   Registration starts in February with games played at Briarcrest on Saturday mornings. The season runs from late March to early May. 
    Lacrosse is offered to Briarcrest students in grades 3-5.  The girls play on a combined 3
    rd/4th/5th grade team and the boys play on a combined 3rd/4th or 5th/6th grade team.  Signups will begin in January with games beginning in March and ending in late April.
    Students in grades SrK – 5 may participate on our swim team through the YMCA @ Quince.    It is an 8-week session beginning in mid-February and ending in mid-April.  The team practices twice a week and has two meets per season. 
  • Cheerleading

    Cheerleading is offered to girls in Grades 1 – 5.  The cheer program is designed to be a feeder to BCMS and BCHS cheerleading program.  Sideline squads cheer at the football games for their respective teams and is a non-competitive squad.  For more information on the elementary cheerleading program, please contact Melissa Jernigan @

Required Athletic Forms

All students planning to participate in a sport for the 2017-18 school year (including pre-season activities) are required to have a physicalstudent athlete participation formconcussion form & sudden cardiac arrest form on file in the elementary athletic office. These are required once a school year for all athletes.(P.E. not included)  Starting in the 2017-18 school year, the student athlete participation form, concussion form and sudden cardiac arrest form will be signed on-line electronically.  The athletic forms process is complete after you have signed the above forms on-line and we have a current physical for your student.  The link to sign these forms will be sent to parents in a couple of weeks.  For more information on the athletic forms process, please contact Stella Barry at 765-4601.
