Senior Rachel Mikkola has attended Briarcrest for 11 years and began taking art with Jenna Fergus her freshman year. She was awarded a full scholarship to the Tennessee Governor’s School for Visual Arts at MTSU last summer. Her artwork has received many accolades, including one of her pieces from her Advanced Placement Art Portfolio being chosen to be on display for the Frist Museum of Art in Nashville. She also won the West Tennessee Art Exhibit Best of Mixed Media and that piece was chosen to be on display at Belmont University. Rachel also won the BRACE Best of Show for Excellence in Expressive Quality and several GWOTH awards, including Best of AP Art for two years in a row. She is also a Memphis Brooks Museum of Art medalist. She is Co-President of the Briarcrest Art Honors Society and was voted “Most Creative” by her senior class.
Rachel will attend Liberty University in the Fall and will major in Studio Art and minor in Spanish Evangelism. Rachel hopes to create art that will glorify the Lord. The Briarcrest Fine Arts Department honors students who have either been accepted to a specific program at a college or university with the intent to be a professional in the fine arts field or have received a scholarship to perform.
