2020 Recipient

Dr. Clair and Mrs. Clarice Cox

The Cox family’s support of Fine Arts includes significant advances in Instrumental Music, notably support for the Band program in 2004. A combination of endowed support for the program and construction of the Dr. and Mrs. Cox Marching Band Rehearsal Field positioned the “Mighty Sound” with long-term financial support and a consistent, well-groomed surface for rehearsals throughout the season. In Spring 2019, Mrs. Clarice W. Cox partnered with BriarcrestArts to expand our already extensive collection of facilities to create the school’s new state-of-the-art Piano Keyboard Lab in honor of all Briarcrest music teachers. Each of the lab’s 16 student stations features a Yamaha P125B digital piano working in tandem with the instructor’s Yamaha LC4 Lab Controller. Starting in the upper elementary and continuing all the way through high school, the keyboard lab enables Briarcrest to continue raising the bar for students in our vocal and instrumental music programs.

Dr. and Mrs. Cox have also proudly sponsored the Clarice Cox Excellence in Watercolor Award since 2013. The award is presented to a regional student whose work was submitted by their art teacher to the Briarcrest Regional Arts Contest and Exhibition (BRACE). The exhibition provides a venue for displaying students’ artwork, encouraging young artists and connecting the local visual arts community.

Dr. and Mrs. Cox have four sons, Clair (BCS ’78), Danny (’81), Kevin (’86) and Ken (’89), and 11 grandchildren.
