2019 Recipient

Receiving the Briarcrest Hall of Fame Service Award as an Administrator is Boys Basketball Head Coach John Harrington. A 1979 graduate of First Assembly Christian School, John was a two-sport athlete at the University of Memphis where he received his Bachelor and Master’s Degrees.
Harrington began his coaching career at Bartlett High School in 1984, where he was part of a program that won over 400 games and the school’s first state basketball championship.
Harrington joined Briarcrest as the Head Boys Basketball coach in 2002 and is the Saints’ all-time winningest basketball coach with a 389 - 158 record. Harrington has led the Saints to 14 State Tournament Appearances, 10 sub-State Championships, four State Runner-Up titles, and two State Championship Titles in 2008 and 2019.

Recently named the Tennessee Basketball Coaches “Coach of the Year for 2019,” Harrington has coached six Tennessee Mr. Basketball Award winners and three others who were finalists for the award. Twenty-two of Harrington’s former Saints have continued to play basketball at the college level.
Coach Harrington is married to Heather McCommon Harrington (BCS ’87) and they have two sons:  Trey (BCS ’17) and Tyler (BCS ’21). Congratulations, Coach Harrington!
