2019 Recipient

A four-year letterman, Leslie Vernard McDonald, class of 2009, helped lead Briarcrest to its first Boys’ State Basketball Championship in 2008. Leslie finished his high school career as the all-time leading scorer for Briarcrest, and for all of Memphis private schools, with an amazing 2,353 points.
Named Region Player of the Year, Best of Prep’s Selection, and All-State Selection three times, Leslie was also a two-time Tennessee Mr. Basketball Award Winner and Parade All-American. He was also recognized as the 2009 Gatorade Player of the Year. Leslie was a member of the 2007 gold medal-winning USA Basketball Youth Development Team and the 2008 USA Under-18 Team. Following his senior season, Leslie played in the USA Academic All-American Game in California and the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Oregon.
Leslie continued his basketball career in college playing 125 games during four years under Coach Roy Williams at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from UNC. Following his collegiate career, Leslie played professionally overseas in Israel for two years, before returning to play in the NBA G-League. Leslie currently resides in Charlotte, North Carolina.
