Letter from the Principal

Dear BCHS Parents:

The older that I get, the more life stages I am privileged to experience.  About five years ago, I entered a life stage that I perceived to be for those “much older” than myself.  I entered the “minivan” stage.  Yes, it is something that many families do, but I must be honest that I had many reservations about trading in my truck for this type of new vehicle.  Over the past few years, the minivan has grown on me.  I actually enjoy loading up the family in it, utilizing the electric doors, and the two rows of seats that provide a natural buffer for the constant aggravation between a brother and sister.  But the best part of the minivan is the DVD player.  If you are a parent of young children, I know you can relate to this.  We have a Disney Film Festival during most trips, and one of our favorites is Beauty and the Beast.  I have not actually seen the film (due to the demands of driving), but I have heard it more times than I can count.  I can quote most lines; and yes, I know most of the words to the song “Be Our Guest.

This Saturday, Taylor, Drew, and I got to do more than just hear Beauty and the Beast.  We got to experience it as we attended the BCHS Drama Department’s performance of this Disney classic.  It is amazing!  The students bring the characters to life; and as we sat in the auditorium, I was taken aback at the costumes, sets, sounds, and Disney-like experience.  It was great to see our students showcasing their talents and making it all look so easy!  Both Drew and Taylor did not want to see the show come to an end; and as we drove home in our minivan, they bubbled with excitement about all they had seen and heard.   Just a side note:  If you have not seen this year’s production of Beauty and the Beast, it is a “must see”!  You will not be disappointed; and you, too, will leave with a greater appreciation for the talent of our students.

As I think about the difference between only hearing the musical in my van and experiencing it in the theater, I was reminded of the message Ed Newton brought to us during Rush Week.  Ed challenged us to walk with Christ.  Many times, I hear about Christ, or go through the motions; but do I truly experience all He wants for me?  Is my relationship with Christ more than just behavior modification?  Is it a change from within and a transformation of the heart?  As Ed reminded us, it is all about falling madly in love with Christ and never forgetting what He did for us on the cross.  We had an incredible time of fellowship with Ed last week;  but as he would say, “He dropped a message in my mailbox,” and it was this: love Him, spend time with Him, and be able to say that impact of this year’s Rush week will be reflected this summer, next school year, and when we are senior adults in a rocking chair at the Cracker Barrel.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: the old has gone, the new has come!  II Corinthians 5:17

Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did. I John 2:6
