“Life is no fairytale.” Or is it? There is one fairy tale that correctly depicts the struggles of life in the real world. Into the Woods may have the storybook characters you know and love but it reveals unexpected pasts and some not so happy endings. This classic take off the Grimm Brothers fairy tales teaches individuals that sometimes the things you most wish for are far from the things you need.
Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods intertwines the stories of Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Little Red Riding Hood. James Lapine, the playwright, ads the story of a childless Baker and his wife, as they journey “into the woods” to reverse the childless spell. They make new acquaintances and come to realize that life is a struggle worth fighting for. This show’s hilarious antics and vibrant costumes will keep the children captivated and the adults laughing.
The Into the Woods cast at Briarcrest Christian High School, directed by Ashleigh Williams and Allie Gay and under the musical direction of Dr. Billy Rayburn and Mark Lewis, is ecstatic to present this differentiated musical.
