Admission Procedures and Policies

Briarcrest Christian School seeks to enroll students who are capable of and committed to success in the total educational program of the school. Briarcrest welcomes students of all racial or ethnic origins and religious affiliations. Admission to Briarcrest is selective and is based on factors which include previous school performance, teacher recommendations, testing results, and a record of exemplary behavior at home, in school, and in the community.

Financial assistance is available for those families who demonstrate financial need as determined by submitting the Parent's Financial Statement to the School and Student Service for Financial Aid in Princeton, New Jersey. Financial aid forms may be obtained from the Briarcrest Admissions Office.

Admission Criteria

Early Childhood (Preschool–Senior Kindergarten)

  • All applicants for Preschool–Senior Kindergarten will be screened with an evaluation instrument of the school's choice.
  • The recommended birthdate cutoff for admission is June 1 of the school year the students wishes to enter. However, prospective students with birthdays after June 1 may be evaluated for admission under certain circumstances.
  • Current Briarcrest Christian School Kindergarten students will be evaluated before the Admissions Committee recommends placement in Grade 1.

Grades 1-12 Applicant Requirements

  • Maintain a C average or above in academic grades or evidence of satisfactory academic performance if grades are not available.
  • Grades 1-4 must attain a composite achievement score on a nationally-normed standardized achievement test at the 50th percentile or higher. Recent test results within the last 18 months are acceptable.
  • Grades 5-12 will be required to take the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam).  The Admissions Office will have ISEE student booklets that will indicate dates and locations.  Please visit www.iseetest.org for specific test sites and dates.  It is the applicant's responsibility to take this test and have scores submitted to Briarcrest at the earliest possible date.
  • Score within the average range on an I.Q. test or an equivalent score on another ability test.
  • Have satisfactory attendance for the previous year.
  • Have satisfactory behavior history (at home, in school, and in the community) and provide positive indication that he/she truly wants to be a part of the Briarcrest Christian School student body.
  • Principal/teacher recommendation. (Preschool–Grade 12)
  • Interview with the appropriate school officials. (Preschool–Grade 12)
  • Additional testing may be required at the expense of the parent.

Admission Procedures

A. Submitting an Application

  1. Each applicant meeting the established admission criteria must submit a completed Application to the Admissions Office.
  2. A $50.00 per student NON-REFUNDABLE application fee must accompany each application.
  3. A copy of the student’s transcript or prior and current year report cards (including academic and conduct grades along with attendance records) should be submitted for applicants for Grades 1–12.
  4. If available, the most recent I.Q. test scores and achievement test scores (e.g., TCAP, Stanford Achievement Test, ERB, ISEE) should also accompany the Application for Admission.
The final decision regarding admission to Briarcrest Christian School is made by the Admissions Committee. Parents will be notified in writing of that decision.

B. Finalizing the Enrollment Process

  1. Notification of acceptance will be accompanied by instructions regarding finalizing the enrollment process. These instructions will include business matters in addition to supplying all required documentation:
    • Official copy of academic transcript
    • Certified birth certificate (photocopies accepted)
    • Immunization records
    • Doctor Statement of Health (Preschool–Senior Kindergarten)
  2. An enrollment contract signed and dated by the parent/guardian and returned to the school’s business office will complete the enrollment process.

Special Circumstances

Any exception to the established written admision policy (e.g., student who meets the GPA requirement but falls just short of the standardized score requirement) will be made by the Admissions Committee. The decision of the Admissions Committee regarding all matters of student admission is final.
